Faye's Favorite Recipes!

What does a good recipe consist of? To me, great ingredients, easy to find ingredients, simple instructions, love, and a great result. Today I am going to share some of my all time favorite recipe's with you, some of which I have requested from friends, family or found on the internet. I hope this will inspire you to try something new and get in the kitchen! I love recipe books, I have so many I have had to get rid of a lot of them!
As you can probably tell, I am a big fan of Company's Coming, and one of the best tips I can give you about recipe books is buy your local cookbooks, through your local hospital, retirement home, Home coming, whatever it may be, these are the best recipes you will find, everyone sends theie best recipes in, and truly bring their "A" game! You will never be disappointed in one of these! These are the recipe's worth trying!

Okay so let's get started, with breads, yummy bread!
This one is a fun recipe for a special day, I make this one and top it with taco toppings, or to eat on the side of a steamy bowl of soup, really any thing goes, you can top this with honey and cinnamon and make it dessert too!

Navajo Fry Bread

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp active dry yeast
½ tsp salt
¾ – 1 cup warm milk (110 degrees)
1 Tbsp butter or shortening, melted
Canola oil, for frying

Instructions
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, yeast and salt. Add the melted butter or shortening to warm milk and mix well. Add ¾ cup of the milk mixture to the dry mixture and stir together until it comes together and forms a ball. The dough should be slightly sticky and elastic so you can add what is needed from the remaining ¼ cup milk of the milk mixture to get the right consistency.
Cover the dough and allow to rest 10 minutes.
While the dough rests, heat up 1 inch of oil in a large skillet to 350 – 360 degrees.
Once the dough has rested, divide it into 12 equal pieces.
On a lightly floured surface roll the dough out one piece a time, rolling each into a 6 inch circle
Fry them one at a time in the hot oil. Allow to cook until golden brown, about 1 or so minutes per side.
Remove from oil and drain onto a plate or baking sheet lined with paper towels. Serve warm with Navajo Taco toppings or with butter and honey.

I owe my cousin Alan a big thank you for giving me this recipe, it has totally changed how i look at my bread maker, this is by far the best bread maker recipe ever, and the extra 10 minutes is totally worth it, try this one, dust off your bread maker and do it, you won't regret it!!

One package of yeast. One cup of warm water. Two tablespoons of sugar. Put that all into your bread maker close lid and let rise for ten minutes. Add three cups of flour 1 tsp of salt and 1/4 cup of veggie oil. Cook a one pound loaf.
So awesome!

I don't make "Traditional Bread" Myself, I have tried it, but haven't mastered it, so I stick to my bread maker for now, but I do love this recipe for buns, I found it on Pinterest, this one is easy and the result is amazing!
http://www.howdoesshe.com/ <--this is were the recipe came from, yum! Delicious Dinner Rolls
The ingredients you will need:
1 1/2 cups of milk
3/4 cup + 1 Tablespoon Sugar
1 egg
1 Tablespoon salt
2 Tablespoons yeast
2 cups of warm water
about 9-10 cups of all-purpose flour
at least 1 cup of butter
To start out: Scald 1 1/2 cups of milk, 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup of butter, in a microwave safe bowl, for about 2 minutes. Cutting the butter into pieces helps it melt faster. There will probably be some little cubes of butter still floating in the hot mixture, they will melt.
We are going to add yeast to this hot mixture, but it will be too hot to just dump the yeast straight in (it would kill it!). To cool it down stir in 1-2 cups of flour, then add 1 egg and 1 Tablespoon of salt, and leave it to cool for a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, in a measuring cup dissolve 2 Tablespoons of yeast in 2 cups of warm water and 1 Tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for a couple of minutes until it is bubbly.
**Keep track of how much flour you are adding!!!
Make sure your milk mixture is just warm, not boiling and add the yeast mixture!
Using a fork or wooden spoon, gradually stir in 9-10 cups of flour (counting the flour you have already added to cool it earlier). I would recommend only adding 2 cups at time and stirring in between. These rolls turn out so much better when they are mixed by hand.
At the end the dough will be dense and sticky, and may be hard to stir, you can use your hands to incorporate the rest of the flour if needed. Be sure not to add too much flour. Then smooth the dough out and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Leave it in a warm place and let it rise.
When your dough is close to rising completely, butter 2 cookie sheets and set them aside.
Let the dough rise until it has doubled in size.

Cover your working space with flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Dump your dough out and divide it into 4 balls. Eyeball the sizes, then lift them up and feel the weight of each ball. Try to make them even, but they don’t have to be perfect.
Using one ball of dough at a time: roll the dough into a circle on a floured counter. Once it is rolled out spread the top with butter from edge to edge. You will use about 2 Tablespoons per circle of dough.
Cut the dough into quarters using a pizza cutter.
Then cut each quarter into 3 pieces. You should end up with 12 triangles from each circle of dough.
you will roll the dough starting with the wide end of the triangle.
Tuck the tail of the triangle under the roll and place it on the buttered cookie sheet. You will make 3 rows, with 8 rolls per row. This will give you 24 rolls per pan. Two balls of dough will fill 1 pan. You will get a total of 48 rolls!
Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. Place the pans of rolls in a warm place (on top of the oven if possible) to let them rise. Once they are touching and full in size, cook (one pan at a time) in the oven ’till they are golden brown. About 10 – 15 minutes, It may take longer depending on how hot your oven cooks. Keep a close eye on your first pan to get the right time for the second.
While they are still hot and fresh out of the oven run a stick of butter over the tops of the rolls for a delicious buttery glaze.
These yummy dinner rolls will be a hit at any event

Pasta Cordon Bleu
Recipe courtesy of Dunne at With a Cherry on Top
Serves 6

1 lb. Pasta (I used penne-you could use any fun shaped pasta)
1 cup Chicken Breasts, cooked and cubed
1 cup Ham, cooked and cubed
1 1/2 cups Milk
8 oz. Cream Cheese (softened)
2 Tbsp. Dried Minced Onion
2 cups Swiss Cheese, shredded
Salt
Pepper
Cayenne Pepper
1 cup Panko Crumbs
1/2 cup Butter, melted

Bring a large pot of water to a boil over med-high heat. Salt it and add the pasta; cook until al dente (about 11 minutes-I used whole wheat pasta which takes a bit longer than regular pasta). Drain and return to the pot. Add in the chicken and ham and toss to combine.

Preheat the broiler. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cream cheese and minced onion over low-medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until it becomes a smooth texture (about 5 minutes). Stir into the pasta mixture. Stir in the Swiss cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Transfer pasta to a baking dish and top with Panko crumbs. Pour melted butter over crumbs and broil until browned (I gave it 4 minutes).

This is one of those recipe's you will make and everyone there will want the recipe!

This one is even moderately healthy for you lol!
Skinny Sour Cream Enchiladas
Cook time: 30 minutes

Serving Size: 8 servings

Ingredients

Ingredients
• 16 oz. fat free sour cream
• 1 can fat free cream of chicken soup
• 1 tbls. fresh chopped cilantro (1/2 tbls. dried)
• 2 1/2 cups cooked shredded chicken breast
• 1 can Mexican Rotel
• 1 cup chopped onions (optional)
• 8 low carb tortillas
• 1 cup shredded pepper jack and colby cheese blend
• 1 can diced green chiles
Instructions

Directions
In a saucepan, mix together sour cream, soup and cilantro. Heat through and set aside.
This is will get to the bubble up/boil stage quickly and make a huge hot mess if you don't keep stirring. I learned the hard way.
Twice.
Combine the chicken, rotel, onions and green chiles in a pan sprayed with cooking spray. Heat until onions are transparent. Or if you omit onions like I have done, for a few minutes to blend the flavors and juices.
Warm the tortillas until flexible. (I microwave them for 10 seconds sandwiched between two damp paper towels.)
Fill each tortilla with about 2 tbls. of the chicken mixture.
Top with about 1/2-1 tablespoon of cheese (or a medium sized pinch if you measure like I do)
Roll the tortilla up and place seam side down (or they will unravel and you will be annoyed.) in a 8x11 dish sprayed with cooking spray.
Pour/Spread the sour cream sauce over enchiladas
Top with the remaining cheese
Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and cheese is melted.

Now on to Appetizer's, Summer is here and now is the time we are all headed out to parties everywhere, and a good party go'er will never show up empty handed! This is a delicious Cowboy salsa that can be enjoyed all year round!

Cowboy Salsa

1 can niblets corn drained and washed
1 can black beans drained and washed
½ red onion chopped
½ green pepper chopped
½ Red pepper chopped
1 tsp chili powder
½ tsp cumin
1 cup low fat ranch dressing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While this recipe packs a punch, almost everyone at the party loves them!
Jalapeno Poppers
12 jalapenos, halved and cleaned out
1 - 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened (I use light)
3 green onions, chopped (optional)
2 or more cloves of garlic, minced
1 - 500 g. pkg of sliced bacon, cut in half lengthwise
Blend the cream cheese, onions and garlic in a bowl. I let this
mixture sit while I
clean and prepare my jalapenos (the longer the better). Fill the
Jalapeno halves
with the cheese mixture, then wrap the bacon around tightly. Place on
an ungreased
Baking sheet and bake in a 350 F oven for about 45 minutes.
Note: The longer you cook them the milder they get, though sometimes
it just depends on
the batch of jalapeƱos you get, some are just spicier than others!
Thanks Lee-ann for this recipe, it is so addicting!!
CHEESECAKE STUFFED STRAWBERRIES
YIELD: Makes 16-20 stuffed strawberries
INGREDIENTS:
1 lb. fresh strawberries, rinsed and pat dry
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Graham cracker crumbs, optional
DIRECTIONS:
With a paring knife, cut off the strawberry stems. Cut around the inside of the strawberry, hollowing out slightly and creating a well for the cheesecake. (You can also do this with a small melon baller). Cut off a small portion of the pointy strawberry tip, so that each strawberry can stand. Place each on a large baking sheet.
In a medium bowl, with a standing or handheld electric mixer, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy, about 2 minutes on medium speed. Place mixture in a pastry bag and pipe into each strawberry, adding a little extra to the top. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.
Optionally, sprinkle graham cracker crumbs on top of each stuffed strawberry.
Sometimes I use crushed Oreo crumbs to top instead of graham wafers, this recipe is simple, easy, but looks complicated, these never last long at any party! HUGE HIT!
Camping!!
It is that time of year again, spring/summer, it makes you want to dist off yourself and get back to nature, this post is all about camping, some of you probably like the actual roughing it type of camping but that is not the kind I am referring too! lol! I am talking about a camper and a bed and everything lol! That is my kind of camping and this post is all about preparing you for that kind of camping!! First off you need a list, everything in my life starts with a list,...everything. So here we go:
Swimming pool
Bug tent
Baby wipes
Toys
Aloe Vera
Vaseline
Lotion
Benadryl
Calamine
Band-Aids
Allergy meds
Coffee
Sugar
Advil
Bandages
Snacks
Chips
Food
Ketchup, mustard, mayo, honey, etc
Drinks: pop, water,  juice boxes, milk
Ice
Movies
Event list
Dishes
Warm clothes
Cool clothes
Swim suit
Socks
Pj’s
Sunscreen
Pony tails
Bug Spray
Hair products
Make up
Shaving kit
Medicine
Pillows
Tablet
Chargers
This is the list I save every year and as the summer goes on if I think of something to add the list is ready and waiting for me the next summer, guaranteed I will remember everything this way, I figure it is the one who is prepared that the accidents never seem to happen too! I am so excited to get my camper out and clean it out and start packing everything, we spend a lot of time in our camper traveling across the Prairies following the Chuck Wagon and Chariot races, nothing but races, rodeos, fairs and parades with great family and friends, it just doesn't get any better than this! Every single weekend we head out requires some planning, but I love to plan events! Now traveling with a child can have it's challenges, but I have found that if you are prepared it will go much better, for instance: let's start with the vehicle, we usually have a 2 hour drive or more to each race track, so we start with our #1 life saver, the dvd player in the car, love it, and if you don't have one, get one. It will be the best 100$ you ever spent, (just some parenting advice from me to you, lol) next snacks, and drinks always help, usually we give our daughter a treat, something she doesn't normally get, so she is excited and happy! Then we have this wonderful activity table,
Something like this one, it is great and this way she can color and make crafts and keep herself entertained for a long trip. Plus along the way we point out every animal, barn and tractor along the way. We are very lucky to have a little girl who doesn't mind traveling.
It may be a lot of working, packing and unpacking, the travel etc, but once you get there it is all worth it, no matter what you have planned for your weekend away, whether it be nothing but you and the stars, or a week and the beach, either way enjoy it, relax! I plan ahead as much as I can so I can relax, including meal planning for camping! This is a great place to implement meal planning, this way you are only hauling the food that you need so let me give you some examples of meals we have when camping, Breakfast: is usually home made muffins that I bake the day before we leave so they will stay fresh the whole trip, or english muffins with egg and cheese, sometimes ham, raisin bread and peanut butter with banana, I love breakfast in the camper, lunch: Bagels with flavored cream cheese, (smoked salmon is my favorite! yum!) hot dogs and veggies with dip or tuna melts Supper: home made pizza pops made on site in our sandwich maker, burgers and corn on the cob, garlic sausage and perogies, smokies, loaded baked potatoes, pasta and garlic bread or we sometimes go out to a local restaurant for supper or eat at the race track canteen it's always nice to take a break from cooking Dessert: smores made in the sandwich maker: Nutella on raisin bread with marshmallows or home made cookies made the day before we leave, my hubby hates to travel with out my "best ever chocolate chip cookies" can't blame him, they are awesome, here is the recipe in case you want it,
Best Ever Chocolate chip cookies
1 c marg
2 ½ c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2c white sugar
¾ c brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1pkg instant vanilla pudding (4servings)
2 eggs
1 - 12 oz package chocolate chips (I only use half the package, the whole package is WAY too much)
Cream eggs, marg, sugars and vanilla.  Add all dry ingredients then chocolate chips.  Bake 350 degrees f oven for 8 minutes. I always double the recipe cause they disappear fast!
Enjoy!
 Now of course these foods are treats not something we can eat everyday, but when we travel it is nice to have some treats!
Next we always plan crafts for our little 3 year old, but we are usually so busy visiting and playing and watching the races that we never used them, even on rainy days, it was nice to just take a nap instead
Ahh Nothing better than a good ol' afternoon nap in the warm camper!
now if you aren't aware of the MPCCA Manitoba Pony Chuck Wagon and Chariot Association, you should be, lol, here is a link to their website, http://www.manitobachuckwagon.com/ here are a few pictures from summer 2012 following the MPCCA
You want to talk about a great summer! This summer was awesome, family fun for everyone! So pull out your camper and camp anyway that makes you happy, whatever that maybe, and hopefully this post will help you to be a little better prepared so you can just relax!! Happy Camping!
Organization!
I LOVE to organize! It is a great feeling knowing your home is organized, I find it fun and rewarding! But I also know that starting out can be really tough, so today's blog has some tips to help you get your home organized, so you will feel better! I get a kick out of getting rid of things, whether I sell the item, throw it out or give it away, I love getting things i no longer need out of my house!! And hopefully after you have attacked your home with organization you will feel the same way. The same way a hoarder gets a high from keeping an item is how i feel when I part with an item! LOL! I follow a very simple system that anyone can follow, when something needs to be organized I look at the project and decide, do I, Love it? keep it, do I, need it? then keep it, if not TOSS IT! Oh the joy you will get from parting with this stuff is wonderful! So when you attack your project, let's say a closet, get out some bins and name them, LOVE IT, NEED IT, TOSS IT, DONATE IT, SELL IT. Everything in your home fits in one of these categories, like it or not lol! You can do this! And once you do, you will have made room for new shiny things LOL! But seriously you won't believe the space you have, you don't need a new house, you need organization! Now there can be some cost associated with organization, but you don't have to break the bank, you will need, bins...tons of them.. in every shape and size, I go to Dollarama for all my bins but the big ones, they are from Wal-Mart and if you wait for a sale it won't hurt your wallet too much, (Boxing Day is a great day to shop for bins!) and then a label maker, there are tons of different kinds you can get, mine is from Wal-Mart and I think it was 30$ or 40$ and it paid for itself instantly cause i love it so much!! On the other hand you can do this organization for next to nothing! Go to your local grocery store or liquor mart and grab some cardboard boxes and wrap them in wrapping paper or material, this way you can customize them to your needs. Like bins for your little boys room could have "Cars" wrapping paper or material, just use spray glue to apply the material and you have a no sew beautiful bin! As far as the label maker goes, well if you have a printer you can buy labels and print them off that way or good old masking tape and a Sharpie will work just as well! The idea is to get organized, and once you are you will never want to go back! Here are some pictures of my home, to give you an idea of the different types of bins you may want to buy and different ways to organize your items,
These are some of my bathroom bins, there are more behind, but to give you an idea I will tell you what I have in each bin, Shampoo, Conditioner and Bodywash another for shaving creams and lotion and another for hand soaps and hand sanitation bottles, this helps me when i am out shopping to remember which bins are running low and need re filling, behind these are bins we don't need all the time, Cotton balls q-tips toothpaste etc.
- this section is to store winter wear in the off season and stores the extra stuff we have during the winter season!
- then we have the four white bins, which are labeled Joe, Faye and Kenzie x2, this is wear we store the stuff we use everyday to go outside, hats, shades, scarves, mitts, that kind of stuff, it makes getting ready so easy, grab your bins and get ready, when you get home put all the stuff you took off back in your bin! It works for us!
- then we have our medicine, in sealed containers so the humidity doesn't affect them, we have Joe's medicine, cause always has something going on with him lol! Then everyday meds like advil etc, then we have a summer box, calamine lotion, allergy spray, sun screen, bug spray etc and finally my sick box, which i love, when someone is sick this is everything they need to feel better, it has happen to me so much that i was sick and I couldn't find my halls, or travel kleenex, even though i knew i had them in the house somewhere, well now they all have a home. When you are sick this box is all you need! It's awesome!
- Here we have Kenzie and I's shelf in the bathroom, we are each given one space in the bathroom, if it starts to over flow, it is time to LOVE IT, NEED IT, TOSS IT! So this is where all my junk goes and Kenzie's, it makes it very clear to see whether she needs more shampoo etc.
- Here are the labels on the bathroom drawers to help your helpful husband remember what goes where. And Joe has a drawer for his junk lol!
This is of course the kitchen, I have a bunch of these and they are great, you can never have to many of them and as you can see they have a bunch of uses, this is what I chose to use them for.
Add caption
This is Kenzie new toy organizer, we bought the bins at dollarama and saved a ton of money, then i took pics of all her toys and organized them in groups, babies, blocks, barbies, etc She follows it perfectly at age 3, I was really impressed!
Add caption
-This one is in my closet, my top shelves used to look awful, I would open my closet and hope nothing fell on my head! lol! So now everything is safely tucked away in bins and it looks so much neater!
More Kitchen bins, these ones are on Kenzies shelf, the candy bin is a  new one, but i find it so helpful since we don't let K have much candy, yet, between birthday parties and parades and Halloween there is always some kicking around, this is a great place to hide all that and just pull it out when she gets a treat!
This is my newest organization project and I am so in Love! It seemed no matter how I organized this Linen Closet, it never worked, all the neatly folded piles somehow ended up picked through and looking terrible, now they each have their own bin and it looks great!
More Kitchen bins! These also help so that when I am out shopping I can buy the item in a  bag instead of a box and save the earth a little!
And my Blue bins, anyone who has ever had a tour of my home knows I have an entire room filled with these bins, My Storage Room! There are probably 20 of them, though i have never counted, they hold items like, Christmas decorations, Valentines dec, St Patricks day dec, Easter dec, you get the idea lol! Gift bags and extra cards and ribbons, Things to give away, Clothes for Kenzie to grow into, electronics, stuff to sell. Etc, these are so handy!! We don't have a basement so we use this room as a storage room and it works great!
This is some of it, there are more, but you get the idea! When ever a container gets too full that means it is time to go through it and clean it out, LOVE IT, NEED IT, TOSS IT! Follow these rules, I know sometimes it can be hard, but some of these things are just things and they need to go! You can do this! Trust me it feels great knowing where everything is, it saves you from buying things you already have but forgot you had. And yes it does happen that I have thrown away or given away something it turns out i did need, but in all my years of getting rid of unwanted things i have only had to buy back one or two things and that is well worth the space in my home that I got from parting with all this stuff! You can do this, so GO! Get started and then post pictures for my to see, cause the only thing a organized person loves more than organizing her/his home is seeing someone else's organized pictures!! I hope this helps some of you to get organized!!! Go on now, get started!!
Grocery Shopping on a Budget!
We are all trying to save money, either we don't have enough and are living pay check to pay check, or we want something special like a vacation or a car etc, there are always reasons to try and save money, I love saving money, it means more "fun money" for me and my family! Our grocery budget for the month is and always has been 200$ and we only keep good foods in our house, the odd time we buy junk for a treat, but for the most part it is all great groceries, feeding a family of 3 (plus company) on 50$ a week has it's challenges, but they are fun challenges, so let's get started! You can adjust your budget to your size family too, I know it is so much cheaper to eat junk all the time, and eating right has it's challenges financially, but it is worth it! My shopping list for the month (or bi weekly if you like) starts with the sale flyers, if you don't get the sale flyers where you are they have them on the internet as well and they are super helpful in planning your grocery list! We eat what is on sale, I plan my meals around what is on sale, not the other way around. This way I can buy fresh meat when it is on sale, I buy extra and freeze it individually so it is ready for my meals. If something isn't on sale we will almost never buy it, unless it would be something like potato's which would be necessary for us in a month, I sometimes will go to 4 or 5 stores and hit up the sales at all of them, review the flyers and see where the best deal is offered, this does take a lot of time, but in my case I have more time then money and I would rather invest time in saving money! An example of my shopping list for 2 weeks would look something like this, Grocery List Pork loin 8$ chicken 8$ ½ cup cashews 3$ Harvarti Dofino 200g 4$ coupon makes it 3$ Fresh Express Bagged salad 1$ each x3 = 3$ Water nestle 2$ each x3 = 6$ Juice Safeway Apple Juice 5 for 5$ x 2 = 10$ Juice boxes 4 for 5$ Milk 8$ Eggs 6$ Whipping cream 3$ Fruit for crepes peaches 1.49 per lb 3$ Oranges .97 cents per pound 5$ Gala Apples 3 pound bag 2.97$ Cheese Cracker Barrel 700g 7.94$ Olive Oil 4$ Heart Healthy Margarine 5$ Flour Robin Hood 10 kg 8.99$ total 99.91$ this will give us everything we need to follow our meal plan for the next two weeks, if the total comes to more than 100$ for two weeks I knock stuff off, little extras that we really don't need so I can stick to my budget. The only reason there isn't more listed is cause the items i need on top of these are already in my pantry and cupboards or freezer, from previous sales etc, like if you look at the list you won't see, vegetables or beef (for example) but that is only cause we have lots left over from previous weeks and sales. At the end of our budget we usually take a bit of extra cash and split it between Joe, Kenzie and I, so let's say there was 60$ extra once all bills are paid and everything is taken care of we would take that cash whatever amount it may be and split it between the three of us evenly, this will only work if you also give you kids their own share otherwise you will end up spending "your money" on your kids, cause it is so much fun to shop for kids, and as parents we always put them first, but this money is about you! So for example Joe will take his 20$ and he will spend it on anything he wants, (usually fishing and hunting supplies) or a Big Buck magazine and sometimes junk food :) I love when we do this, this money is just for you, it is not meant to be saved or for anything else but you, and it forces you to spend money on yourself, cause your worth it! For once it's not about what the kids want or need, or even your partner for that fact. So I usually spend the money, on new a new shirt or maybe make up or whatever I want, remember to have all your bills paid first, the last thing you want is the guilt of buying something when you didn't have everything else paid, that shirt won't feel so sweet when you hydro is cut off! LOL! Just kidding! And Kenzie's money is always fun to spend too! If she is in need of some new clothing item this would be a great time to get that, (tights or pants or new socks) or if she has had her eye on a new movie (but now that we have Netflix we don't buy movies, and we don't usually buy toys for her either, she has lots and she gets lots for her birthday and Christmas, kids have too many toys lol!) I might also use her money to buy her something fun like cheese strings, she loves cheese! Sometimes the extra money is larger and we still split it evenly and buy bigger things like, a power tool for Joe, a tablet for Faye and a new toy shelf organizer for Kenzie. I totally encourage all of you to do this, we have so much fun doing this, and after a long 2 weeks of working hard and staying on budget it is nice to reward your self for sticking to the plan! Good luck with your grocery shopping and sticking to your budgets!
Too many toys!
It's that time of year again, your house is overloaded with toys! Toys from Christmas, toys from birthdays, toys, toys, toys! Toys are great they keep our kids entertained while we whip up meals etc. Toys are educational and a lot of fun, but after Christmas we say, enough is enough, every year in January, we look through all of Kenzie's toys, some she has out grown, some i am tired of listening too, LOL! Some would just get better used in new hands! Usually every year we find a person or a day care to donate them too, so not only are you decluttering your house you are bringing joy to another child/family and that is the most important thing, sometimes we forget how blessed we are to have an abundance of toys and others have so little! So pass it on, and yes i realize some of these have been gifts, but as a gift giver yourself wouldn't you rather see the toy in the hands of a child who will play with it? Of course, so pass it on! We have a certain sized box for toys and once that gets overloaded it is time to empty it out, no kid needs this many toys, especially since they only play with a few of them regularly anyway! Get rid of it, you will feel so much better, make it your January goal, clean out the kiddo's toys and pass them on, the warm fuzzy feeling is all worth it! We just accomplished this goal this week, it doesn't take that long and if you keep up with the January tradition it is for the most part under control, my biggest tip is to do this while the kids are asleep, if they see you giving away their toys they might want to keep them and if you are determined you might just let them, on the other hand it is very important to teach your children that they are parting with toys so the toys could go to someone who truly needs them. So here is what we do, once the toys to give away have been chosen away from her prying eyes lol, we put it all it a black bag or box so she cannot see the contents and explain to her that these are her old toys off to find a new home, if she doesn't see them, she won't miss them, you might chose to do this once the toys are already out of the house. There are many great places you can donate toys, a neighbor, a friend, a daycare, a shelter, the list goes on, make sure all toys are gently used and in good working condition. If it is garbage, through it out :) So there you go, you have a better organized toy box, you have donated to a kid in need, so sit down with a hot chocolate/coffee/tea in front of the fire and give yourself a big ol pat on the back, number one Mom right there!
Monthly Meal Plan!
Today I am going to change your world, if you chose to follow the advice i give you, you will forever be happy, this a i promise you! So here it is, if any of you have spent any time on Pinterest you have probably heard rumblings about a monthly meal, plan, I had heard of this many times over yet I never bothered to find out what it really was, but now that i have my whole life has changed for the better, it does take a little time and commitment but trust me it is totally worth it!! Ok so here it goes, a monthly meal plan is just this, take a calendar, i am sure you have a million around the house this time of year, or make a calendar on line like i do and fill out one month worth of meals, remember to leave blank the days you plan to go out, you fill all the days in with all your families favorite meals, and then follow that with a grocery list, a large list of everything you need to make all these meals. Now this will take some time, but trust me it will save you a ton of time, trying to think up what to have for dinner, running to the store on your lunch break for a supper idea or ingredients and running to the store after work, this system is amazing, everyday as soon as we would finish breakfast my hubby would ask, what's for supper, and I would be like "are you kidding me I just figured out what to have for Breakfast!! LOL!" If you like you can plan our exactly what you want to have for breaky lunch and supper, but we only have supper on our meal plan and we always make enough for Joe to take the left overs to work! Never again do you have to worry about what to make for supper cause there it is all planned out for you, we have been doing things this way since October and we would never go back to the old way, we ate alot of last minute meals, none of which are very good for you cause we where in a rush and didn't know what to make, so in our meal plan we try to have healthy meals and a few junky meals, if you don't put them in there, you will end up cheating on your meal plan, so put your fav's in there! Not every meal has to be a healthy one! And the other great part of this plan is that all of the ingredients you need are now in your house from the big grocery list you made and the big shopping trip you will have made, everything is all ready there, this makes the job so much easier and saves you so many trips to the store! And because the items are already in your house for the recipe the chances you will follow your plan are much greater! Try this, give it one month and I promise you will be hooked, this will also save you money, because instead of buying last minute frozen pizza's or whatever you will have a meal planned out already and you won't feel rushed into buying the more expensive boxed foods, here is an example of a montly meal plan, this is our plan for January, MONTH of JANUARY Macaroni and cheese and Hotdogs 1 Spaghetti and Bread Sticks 2 Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese 3 Bacon Cheese Burger taquitos and fries 4 Dauphin Pick up supper 5 Sesame Shrimp and Broccoli 6 Meat loaf with stuffing potatoes and veggies 7 Fondue with Wontons shrimp broccoli mushrooms cauliflower 8 Taco’s with Home made Navajo Fry bread 9 Chicken and Snow pea stir fry 10 Pickerel and home made fries 11 Home Made Pizza 12 Ribs, Brussels Sprouts and potatoes 13 Mustangs game 6pm eat at rink 14 Homemade beef tomato macaroni Soup and buns 15 Lemon garlic Chicken Alfredo 16 Lasagna 17 Chicken Rice Casserole with French Fried onions 18 Dauphin Pick up Supper 19 Perogies and Bacon 20 Slow cooker Chicken Cashew 21 Loaded Baked potato Soup 22 Ham and scalloped Potatoes 23 Teriyaki Chicken and Rice 24 Chili And hame made Bread 25 Pork chops potatoes gravy stuffing veggies 26 Zucchini Pasta 27 Gnocchi Soup 28 Beef and Cheddar Pot Pie 29 Perogies and Bacon 30 Kraft Dinner and Hotdogs 31 Just an example of what you might like, but of course add your own foods, I also keep a folder on my computer of new recipes i would like to try and then when it is time to do up my montlhy meal plan I have some new ideas to add :) Please try this it will change your life and make everything so much easier, it turns out most of the battle of cooking is figuring out what to cook and getting the ingredients, once you have that mastered cooking the meal is sooo much easier! Best of luck!! Let me know how it works for all of you!!! Trust me just do it!!
Now that Christmas is over...
Now that Christmas is over I finally have a chance to write to you all again, it has been a wonderful and blessed 2012, our Christmas Holidays will be remembered with Joy! We had a great time going to all 10 of our Christmas dinners, we also attended a Wedding a Baby Shower and a Birthday party in that 2 week span of Holidays! Our daughter was blessed with many wonderful gifts and so where we! Now that the Holidays are over and we have caught up on our sleep and our relaxing time what shall we do? I usually tend to get a little bummed out when it is all over, it is the best time of the year and we have a long wait before it returns again! So now we need to focus our attention on new things, so here we go, my plan is to take it day by day, focus on the little things that we still have to look forward to! Today we are making Deer Jerky, our first attempt at any kind of Jerky but we are pretty pumped, we are doing up 15 pounds of meat so we have plenty to share with our friends and family, we are also taking this time to enjoy all the nice gifts we got, seeing K enjoy all these new things brings a smile to my face everyday, in a couple days we will head out to do our grocery shopping and pick up some stuff from the bidding wars sites, then we are going straight to the hockey game! With our new coach things are going so well, we might actually win a few more this year, not that it really matters to me whether we win or lose, at least not until we get into the playoffs, if we get into the playoffs lol! Our house is un-decorated and looking back to normal, which is a little sad and bare, it is odd because usually when it is time to un-decorate I am happy to be rid of all the extras and glad to go back to our normal house, but this year I guess I was not ready this year LOL! This week we will try to focus on the positive and remember that there are still plenty of things to look forward too! So if any of you are in the same boat as me, just remember the things that are coming up in your life that you do have to look forward too! Focusing on the positive will keep you from having to endure the "Post Christmas Crash", I hope your Christmas was as wonderful as ours and I hope your 2013 brings you many blessings! Remember to try and stay positive!
